Artcore is experienced in managing creative workshops with schools and community groups. Our professional artists work with clients of various ages and abilities producing individual pieces and group artworks for private or public spaces. Activities include working in mosaic, clay, plaster, cement and various other mediums. Our workshops bring uniqueness in subject, materials used and processes involved and can be tailored for various age groups. Through these workshops we aim to give people a chance to transform their own environment by working together and valuing the input of all those involved.

The Five Skills programme
The Five Skills programme was a set of workshops, which Artcore had, undertaken to involve all groups of people and ages within the community. Participants worked in different mediums every week, as we taught a different skill each week for five weeks. The participants learnt the skills to create objects of interests.
Sand Casting - This interesting technique involved sand, creating an impression in sand and taking a cast. It is a lot of fun and play of negative and positive impressions and yields ornaments with a rustic surface that seems weathered.
Mosaics - In this workshop participant’s learnt the basics of mosaic. We taught the entire process from design through to grout. Each participant then had a finished mosaic, also suitable for exterior use, and the knowledge to continue creating mosaics on their own. Mosaics are small pieces of stone or glass of different colours that are used to create a pattern or picture. We taught how to use nippers to cut & shape ceramic and glass into tesserae, how to set shards of varied thickness and the proper setting and grouting materials.
Sculpture - This workshop taught participant’s how to change a drawing into 3D and how to create 3D artwork by shaping or combining materials.
Pottery – This workshop taught the participant’s to design concepts and create a range of products using clay and the wheel. They were able to design things that were practical in nature and could be used in everyday life. They made gifts for any occasion. We taught different techniques involving to work on the wheel.
Painting – In this workshop taught the basic skills needed to paint on a canvas using mix media.
Caly N Glaze
Working with clay is quiet an experience!! Very different from any other medium. Each stage of the process poise different challenges.
The molding of the clay lump , the feeling of different consistency of clay from soft, spongy to leathery to hard biscuited and glazed ware. This is what one has to develop a "feel" for clay. It is only through actually working with the particular clay that one establishes a sense of its quality and ability.
At Clay N Glaze we have been learning about different techniques, how your own 2 hands and a bit of creativity to work with clay can help visualise our imagination. Working on the wheel is another interesting technique have been exploring.
These 7 week workshops from 9th March 2010 to 1st May 2010 have been an interesting way to involve the local community to create interesting works.
